He began his career as an assistant to \b \cf4 \ATXht1097 Fra Angelico\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 on the decoration of the Florentine monastery of San Marco, as well as in Rome and Orvieto, and to Ghiberti on the second door of the Baptistery in Florence.
His painting was also influenced by Domenico Veneziano and \b \cf4 \ATXht1093 Filippo Lippi\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 , and later on by Andrea del Castagno and Piero della Francesca. Praised for his gifts as a brilliant decorator, he did his best work at Montefalc
o, in the chancel of the church of San Francesco, in the frescoes of the Medici Chapel on Via Larga in Florence, and in the \i Scenes from the Old Testament \i0 in the Camposanto at Pisa.
